Training as a Registered Nurse in 1961 where we had to stand when the doctor entered the room, I was struck for the next twenty years how the profession of medicine is really the practice of controlled diseases. I went into medicine to get even—to become the advocate for my patients that I was as a nurse: interceding for them in answering questions that were important for trust and compliance with their regimen.
Over the years since completing my residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology, I have come to see how arbitrary many diseases are, highly connected to our lifestyle, and even more importantly, to our belief system.
Membership in the American Integrative Holistic Medical Association for nearly 20 years has connected me with many of the greats in medicine:
- Deepak Chopra
- Bernie Siegel
- Patch Adams
- Christiane Northrup
- Gladys McGarey
Board certified in Integrative Holistic Medicine, as well as Obstetrics and Gynecology, certification as a Perfect Health Instructor from the Chopra Center, Reiki Master certification, and graduate and postgraduate training with master herbalist, David Winston, has given me a wonderful and diverse education. That I am a published author and coauthor of six books, researcher with three published trials using natural progesterone cream is noteworthy.
Yet, above all, I am a woman who has been through the challenges of not feeling good enough for many of these years. How did I come full circle to see my enough-ness? SIMPLE, not easy. I followed what I teach my magnificent women, day after day after day after day:
- Drink your water, not sugary drinks
- Eat your preferably organic fruits and vegetables
- Assure daily elimination to detoxify your bodies
- Move your buns, regularly
- Sleep 7-8 hours each day
- MEDITATE, PRAY daily
- Forgive those who harm you, and…
- LOOK INTO YOUR MIRROR, INTO THE LOOKING GLASS TO YOUR SOUL—buck naked—AND SAY TO YOURSELF: “I love you exactly as you are”, expressing gratitude for the magnificence before you.
AMEN, Helene B. Leonetti, MD
